Close to the Unknown
such stillness in the grey eye of the sky
an imminence, something about to be?
a scattering of empty nut shells in their green leaf cases
(these are the runes)
tree stippled hills receding into blur
a brown butterfly knits the wide meadow in rapid mazy stitches…
is here
otherwhere
and gone
far westwards towards the Forest
broad Severn’s a sliver of pewter
and unseen buzzards cry
you are pushing through thick air
into the unknown
high warm wold under your feet
