Jehanne’s songs speak straight to the heart.
Rooted in the English folk tradition, they branch and flower in unusual directions, via French chanson and troubadour influences, Spanish rhythms and touches of jazz.
She has a rare ability to combine deeply felt, technically accomplished lyrics with original and memorable melodies. This takes her beyond classic folk storytelling into a category all her own.
With a few acappella exceptions, her arrangements are simple yet rich. Her own guitar and piano structures are warmly supported by her husband Rob’s fiddle and mandolin, and the versatile bass and guitar of Will Mercer on later albums. Superb session support throughout is provided by virtuoso players like Ric Sanders and Chris Leslie of Fairport Convention, among others.
